Carbon Neutral Agriculture
We outline our roadmap in achieving Carbon Neutral Agriculture (CNA) on our plantations across Thailand
Natural Farming Practices
The company has transitioned to natural farming practices, greatly eliminating the use of synthetic fertilizers and pesticides.
- Agroforestry Systems
- Plantations International has integrated agroforestry practices into its mango plantations. By planting a mix of trees and crops (intercropping), the company not only sequesters carbon but also creates a more resilient and biodiverse ecosystem. Trees act as carbon sinks, capturing CO2 from the atmosphere and storing it in biomass and soil.
- Biochar Application
- Biochar, a form of charcoal produced from organic waste, is applied to the soil to improve fertility and increase carbon storage. Biochar helps sequester carbon in the soil for centuries, enhancing soil health and reducing the need for chemical fertilizers.
Technological Innovations
Technological innovation has played a crucial role in Plantations International’s journey to Carbon Neutral Agriculture.
- IoT and Smart Agriculture
- Internet of Things (IoT) devices are used to monitor environmental conditions, soil moisture levels, and crop health. These smart agriculture technologies provide real-time data, enabling precise and efficient resource management.
- Drones and Remote Sensing
- Drones equipped with sensors and cameras monitor crop health, detect pests, and assess soil conditions. This technology allows for targeted interventions, reducing the need for chemical inputs and minimizing environmental impact.
